Stone set in resin (or resin bound aggregate permeable paving solutions) can be used for both internal and external applications. The stone set in resin system uses natural gravel or coloured recycled glass to create beautiful, practical and hardwearing porous paving. Stone set in resin permeable paving is suitable for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It is 100 times more flexible than concrete, and is also strong, permeable and UV stable. The stone is resin bound so there’s no loose gravel and it comes with a ten year guarantee. The stone set in resin wetpour system is also ideal for overlaying and covering unsightly concrete or asphalt. Stone set in resin is a very cost effective and long term alternative solution to removing and replacing existing hardscapes.

Typical Sub Base Preparation Requirements for resin bound aggregates: Glooloop are fully versed in the rudiments of surface sub-base preparation requirements and can provide competitive quotations for such works. Alternatively, we can provide detailed guidelines and specification so that you can arrange another party to carry out ground works or preparation.

Asphaltic Concrete (Asphalt)

  • Suitable for all traffic types, depending on build up.
  • Asphalt’s flexibility helps avoid cracking caused by sub-structural movement.
  • Product can be laid directly onto an existing asphalt surface or a newly installed one as soon as it has cooled.
  • The ideal asphalt is 50mm depth of AC10 or AC14 dense graded asphalt.

Typical sub-base requirements are as follows:

  • Pedestrian traffic only – eg paths: sub-base of 75mm depth of well compacted, non frost susceptible damp road base to receive asphalt
  • Light vehicular use – eg driveways: sub-base of 150mm depth of well compacted, non frost susceptible damp road base to receive asphalt
  • Heavier vehicular use – eg car parks and access roads: 20mm road base (DGS20) plus a further layer of AC20 dense graded asphalt on top, typically 65mm deep

Concrete

  • Suitable for all traffic types, depending on build up.
  • Concrete needs close attention when laying product wearing course.
  • Concrete generally should be 100mm depth of N20 concrete 20MPa.
  • Concrete can be susceptible to cracking. Although our product is crack resistant, it will ultimately reflect any crack in the base, so expansion joints must be included in the plans and reflected in our product wearing course.
  • Existing concrete: needs to be sealed using a PVA or our proprietary resin primer before product is installed. This can be done on the day of installation if the weather conditions are warm enough for a fast drying time.
  • Freshly-laid concrete: a minimum period of 7 days must be allowed before installation of our product on new concrete, to make sure that the surface has hardened sufficiently and will provide good adhesion.

Crushed Rock & Roadbase

  • Ideal as a base for tree surround surfacing, crushed rock is suitable for areas of low pedestrian traffic with no vehicular access. Roadbase can be used as an alternative base for light vehicular and pedestrian use, particularly when permeability is an issue
  • The crushed rock should be built in two layers of 20/5mm free draining crushed stone base and well compacted to a minimum depth of 100mm
  • Our product needs to be laid to a minimum depth of 40mm for tree surrounds and 20mm when being laid directly onto roadbase.
